TBY Partners LCCI on Digitalisation in Nigeria Roundtable

International research firm, The Business Year (TBY) has partnered Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) to deepen the conversation on driving digitalisation in Nigeria by bringing stakeholders to a roundtable to discuss the role of digitalisation in banking.

TBY which publishes information on emerging economies noted in a statement received by BusinessDay that the conference is themed ‘Harnessing Digitalization in Nigeria’s Financial Sector’. It will provide an opportunity for the sector’s leaders to dialogue on the growing disruption, opportunities in financial technology services (FinTechs) for retail banking, strategies for collaboration and the impact of innovation in fostering financial inclusion and overall economic prosperity.

The company explained that Nigeria with its wealth of natural resources, favourable climate conditions, and more than 180 million people stands shoulders above peers in providing myriads of opportunities to investors across every sector.

It acknowledged the government’s efforts to stabilize the adverse economic situation the country currently faces by embarking on a “solid diversification drive.” The drive has given birth to programs aimed at re-launching growth, such as reforms in the oil and gas sector and the much-awaited Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (ERGP).

TBY however believes that Nigeria’s financial sector holds a major role in spurring the country’s economy back to life.

“A well functioning banking sector is essential to promote efficiency in financing decisions and in the allocation of resources. For the last couple of years, Nigerians banks have been grappling with the economic downturn and a shortage of foreign currency.

“This challenging operating environment however, has helped propel the use of technology and innovative business models in financial services and given rise to dynamic disruptors in the Fintech space,” the statement read.

The roundtable discussions, TBY stated, is just an aspect of the work of the company as other events with different themes are being organised across 30 countries where it has presence.

It further said that idea of the roundtable’s theme was from its many subscribers many of whom operate in Nigeria.

“TBY is in Nigeria to conduct research on the country’s economy and business climate through approximately 120 face-to-face interviews with business leaders across all sectors. This will result in the firm’s fourth publication on Nigeria,” TBY noted.

The annual publication ‘The Business Year: Nigeria 2018’ will be published in the first quarter of 2018.

The roundtable discussion will take place on Wednesday, August 9 at the Eko Hotel and Suites in Victoria Island, Lagos.BUSINESSDAY.
