PiggyBank, 13 Others Get Ready to Pitch For €20 Million Investment

Nigerian-based fintech start-up, Piggybank is on a campaign with 13 other tech start-ups to raise €20 million in funding from investors across selected European countries.

The campaign named Pitch Drive is organised by Nigeria’s social innovation centre the Co-Creation Hub (CCHUB) in partnership with Google for Entrepreneurs. Fourteen start-ups from different countries in Africa were selected from a list of 118 submissions, for Pitch Drive.

The start-ups include Kudobuzz (Ghana); Ongair (Kenya); Gebeya (Kenya/Ethiopia); Piggybank (Nigeria); Gloo (Nigeria); Prepclass (Nigeria); Tradedepot (Nigeria) Flashpa (Nigeria); Lifebank (Nigeria); Firefly media (Senegal); GoMetro (South Africa); ClinicMaster (Uganda); BitFinance (Zimbabwe); and Real Food (Zimbabwe).

The selected start-ups will begin their pitch on the 14 August at Google’s Campus in London, before moving to TQ Amsterdam, Berlin, Impact Hub in Zurich and concluding at NUMA Paris. The organisers are hoping that at the end of the pitch the start-ups would have interfaced with over 300 investors with the specific goal of raising over €20 million.

“The idea of a PitchDrive is a phenomenal and an incredible opportunity for not only the selected 14 startups, but also the investors,” said Tijani Bosun, founder and CEO of CCHUB, “The turnout of applications for PitchDrive lean to the ‘start small dream big’ saying and through this platform, we hope to help secure a number of breakthrough capital deals for the selected 14 startups. And like the Garage story of Google, we hope that or two or possible all of these start-ups will have a similar story. I can say that they are in for a tough but rewarding journey with us.”

Meanwhile users of the Piggybank which recently launched its mobile app have taken to social media platforms to share their experiences with the money saving app.

“I signed up on PiggyBank.ng earlier last month after seeing the ad on Twitter. I did this to discipline myself and it has been good,” said a follower on Twitter.BUSINESSDAY
