Bishop Advises Students To Shun Cultism, Idolatry

By Hilary Akalugwu

Nsukka   -   Bishop Godfrey Onah of the Catholic Diocese of Nsukka has advised  students from across he country to shun cultism and idolatry.

Onah said this at St. Theresa’s Catholic Cathedral, Nsukka, during his homily at the mass to mark this year’s Pentecost Sunday.

The bishop administered the Sacrament of Confirmation to 1,109 students from different secondary schools in Nsukka town during the mass.

He said that the sacrament would make the recipients true soldiers of Jesus Christ, as the Holy Spirit they received would make them become bold to preach the gospel and win souls for God.

“Having received the Holy Spirit today, you have become true soldiers of Christ. You will always say the truth and preach the gospel at all time no matter whose ox is gored.

“You should shun cultism and idolatry; avoid involving in any masquerades and other acts that will bring disgrace to the Catholic Church.

“Be good ambassadors of Christ wherever you find yourself, “he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the students were from: The Queen of Rosary College, St. Therese’s College, Urban Girls Secondary School, and St. Catherine Secondary School, all in Nsukka

The bishop also advised Christians to emulate the apostles who after receiving the Holy Spirit on Pentecost day went to towns and cities proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ without minding what would be the consequences from none believers.

“The apostles knew that the Holy Spirit as the comforter would guide and protect them and even if they were persecuted for preaching the gospel, they would make heaven when they died.

“People from different places that received the Holy Spirit on Pentecost day in the Bible showed  that God does not discriminate and anybody who believes in his name will receive the Holy Spirit, ” he said.

The bishop also urged Christians to always use their God- given talents to serve God and humanity.

“If people in the world will positively use the gifts they received from God, this world will be a better place for all of us.

“We must remember that on the last day, we will give an account to God of how we used the gifts he gave to every one of us.

“Everybody in the world has a different gift and it is God’s intention that we use them for the benefits of our neighbours and humanity,” he said

  1. Certainly the Bishop's words are worthy of respect and admiration. Many students do experience difficulties in becoming on the path of life and for example there is a great way to avoid difficulties in education. To do this, you just need to apply for australian essay writing and there was no more reliable solution for me.

  2. I face many students from different parts of the country but they all have something in common. I think this is their hatred towards wiritng tasks. Most of them used assignment writing help australia and I can understand them. Writing takes so much time and efforts, so it is far easier just to order it.

  3. Do you know about popular affiliate for essays? I read that it's a great opportunity to earn some money and also improve writing and communicative skills.
